The Great Adventure Begins - Again!

Well, we are back. Due to internet issues, I am only finally able to post today! Enjoy!

After spending the month of July in Nova Scotia, we flew to Boston last Friday morning and returned to Salem to pick up our newly repaired vessel. It was an interesting experience - living life 'on hold' in Nova Scotia as we spent the days wondering if 'this was the week' to make this return journey. Entering Week 6 really was pushing our level of endurance! Some photos from our time at home - grandkids and the South Shore Exhibition ox pull!

And now, here we are! The boat is in good shape, as was expected. Hawthorne Cove staff had cleaned it top to bottom; all we had to do was unpack our suitcases, select provisions, and then relax. However the heat of the day had other ideas - we did unpack. However, the heat (90F - 32-33C), the humidity (no different from many of you, I know), and a very early morning (we were up at 3:15 to catch our plane), meant we were definitely not on our game! We put off provisioning until Saturday, had a very early supper (after being caught in a rainstorm - not fun) and called it a night.

Saturday proved to be a great day getting back into the groove of being fulltime boaters. We have food - Whole Foods is a delight; we found great latte's at Caffe Nero - the coffee fix was satisfied; we were able to use the complimentary car from Safe Harbor to do all of this. Life is good!!

We visited Wharf Landing Saturday evening to listen to a local band, North of Trouble (http://www.northoftrouble.com), and watch Olympic coverage (because it was on at the bar). Watching Canadian talent is always a joy!! We watched the schooner When and If (https://www.sailwhenandif.com) beside us - it is a ship originally commissioned by General George Patton in 1939. As well, we had the pleasure of seeing the tall ship Columbia (https://sailingshipsmaine.org/columbia) dock alongside the marina - what a beautiful ship!!

Some final images from Salem - a fire alarm at the Home for Aged Women - it did not burn down; a side garden; a decorated store front (there a lot of these advertising the occult); a rainbow after a thunderstorm on Sunday looking out Salem Harbour; the offshore windmill installer docked at the power plant in Salem.

On Monday, we left Salem - on to other ports of call. The day dawned bright and sunny, with a marine forecast that was favourable for a pleasant cruise. We passed Marblehead on the way - I think this is the clubhouse :).

We arrived in Quincy, MA by lunchtime with a berth at Safe Harbour Marina Bay within that city. Right next door to Logan Airport, directly under one of the main final approaches to a runway. It is busy - and noisy, but all part of the adventure. Marina Bay is a lovely marina - lots of restaurants, amenities and very helpful staff. I even saw a bunny, but not much other wildlife - very few sea birds, probably because of the airport!

We made the decision to leave Marina Bay on Tuesday as we are both excited to reach our final destination in Montauk. The journey was less than ideal (rain, fog, waves) with the ever present lobster pots to navigate, however we made it! We are currently in Onset Bay, MA - here for two nights as the marine forecast today is worse than yesterday - tomorrow is looking much better. It is currently 20 degrees C - almost cold after the hot, humid weather we have been experiencing. We are headed out on our bikes for this afternoon - it's not raining at present; we are hoping it holds off. Some photos from our journey of yesterday - the Boston lighthouse, the entry to the Cape Cod Canal, and the railway bridge over the canal (the trestle slides up and down pending train traffic).

Until next time - CowBuoy's Life signing off!
